Mrs. Statum was born June 15, 1940, in West Point, Georgia, as one of 13 children of the late Thomas and Corine White Geeter. Mrs. Statum lived in Starks, Louisiana while married to William Thomas “Bill” Statum for 30 years. While living in Starks, Betty and Bill loved to go fishing and hunting. Ms. Statum returned to her roots in Troup County and was Southern Baptist by faith.
Survivors include her daughter, Dianne Statum Makinson of Billings, MT; sister, Sheila Stewart, known affectionately as “Aunt Ann” of LaGrange; grandchildren, Darrell Broussard of Billings, Montana; Misty and Joe Segrest of Vidor, Texas; great-grandchildren, Taylor Alexandra Broussard and Hayden Segrest; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas “Bill” Statum; sisters, Irene Ozley, Leila Geeter, and Ruthie Moore; and brothers, Thomas Geeter, Jr., Danny Geeter, Ronnie Geeter, and Rodger Lee Geter.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 7, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with Daryl Ozley and Dr. Mike Reeves officiating. Interment will be in Gray Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 Thursday afternoon.
