Joe Adams

Joe W. Adams, 80, died Thursday at his home.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Maryneal Cemetery in Nolan County with the Rev. Vance Roberts officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mr. Adams was born in Cisco and moved to Maryneal in 1920. He graduated from Highland High School and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in England, northern France, Normandy, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He married Margaret Hiscock in 1944 in Tilehurst Reading, England, and moved to Abilene in 1945. He drove a gasoline transport truck for Humble Oil, now Exxon, for 16 years and Compton Transport for four years. He was a service attendant for McAlister Oil Co. for 15 years until retiring and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of Abilene; three sons, Joe Henry Adams of Merkel, David Louis Adams of California and Christopher Adams of Eula; one sister, Thelma Hudman of Sweetwater; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
