ABILENE GI IN GERMANY FATALLY HURT

Specialist 2C Charles A. Adams, 47, son of Mrs. Lillie K. Adams, 2502 Grape St., was struck and killed by an automobile last week in Germany, the Department of Defense has notified Mrs. Adams.

The family is awaiting word from Adams' German wife to determine if the body will be shipped back to Abilene or be buried in Germany.

Adams was struck by a civilian car while attempting to walk across the autobahn (super highway) at Hilden, Germany. His wife is in the hospital there suffering from a state of shock. Whether Mrs. Adams was also struck or whether she was with her husband at the time of the accident is not revealed by the Department of Defense.

Adams had been in the Army since 1941, and served in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. He was stationed with the Corps of Engineers in Chinon, France, and was on leave in Germany when the accident happened.

Specialist and Mrs. Adams had been married about eight years. The couple had one son, Billy Charles, 5.

Survivors include the mother; two sisters, Mrs. Jack Eppler of 1804 N. 17th St., and Mrs. Wylie Hudman of Lubbock; four brothers, John and Buster Adams of Maryneal, Tom of 650 Forrest St. and Joe of 1733 Anderson St.

MARYNEAL RITES SET FOR SOLDIER KILLED IN GERMANY

Graveside services will be held at Maryneal Cemetery for Specialist 2C Charles A. Adams, 47, son of Mrs. Lillie K. Adams of 2502 Grape Street, who was killed about two weeks ago in Germany.

Mrs. Adams said Tuesday morning that she had been notified that her son's body will leave Germany on Aug. 30 on the way to Texas. Patterson Funeral Home of Sweetwater will be in charge of arrangements, but time of services is not known.

Mr. Adams was struck by a civilian car while attempting to cross the autobohn (super-highway) at Hilden, Germany.

He was born in Stephens County on June 9, 1910. He grew up in Maryneal and stayed in Abilene with his mother just before entering the service in 1941.

He was married about eight years ago to a German girl from near Bremen, and the couple has one son, Billy Charles, 5.

Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Jack Eppler of 1804 N. 17th St., and Mrs. Wylie Hudman of Lubbock; four brothers, John and Buster Adams of Maryneal, Tom of 650 Forrest St. and Joe of 1733 Anderson St.
