LARKIN, ELWIN W. Age 87, of Reese, died early Sunday morning, February 26, 2012 at St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw. He was born January 25, 1925 in Flint, son of the late Bruce E. and Gertrude (Jones) Larkin and was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Mt. Morris. Mr. Larkin served his country for over twenty-one years first with the U.S. Navy during WWII and later with the U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, until his retirement as a Tech Sgt. in 1965. From 1965 until his retirement in 1980 he served with the U.S. Department of Defense. On January 25, 1947 he married the former Thelma Lentz in the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Together they spent the next sixty-five years together. Elwin was a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese and enjoyed renovating several homes. He was also a member of the American Legion. He loved traveling around the world, making new friends and learning all things about our world.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Larkin was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Bill, Leo, Ronald, Donald, Hope and Philomena.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 from the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese. Fr. Bill Gruden will officiate with committal to take place at 3:30 p.m. in the Pine River Cemetery in Standish. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Air Force.
