Nels was born to parents Bergit and Ole Holte. Bergit and Ole migrated from Norway and raised Nels and his brothers/sisters on a farm in Williams Co,south of Temple, ND. He joined the Army in the early 1930's and then made his way to CA. He met Beulah (Jody)Carney and they married and had three children: Gregory, who died shortly after birth, Cindi and Heidi. Jody died in 1975. He later met Vivian Gilmore from his church and they later married. Nels loved golf and the Dodgers, he was their biggest fan.

His Father in heaven called him home on Father's Day, June 19, 2005 after a short battle with cancer. He died at home as he wished, surrounded by his loving wife, Vivian and daughters, Cindi Alleman, Heidi Southward, Joanne Chinn, Debbie Robinson and Bobbi Johnson, fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Nels was laid to rest at Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, CA on June 22, 2005. His smile, radiance and humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him. We were very lucky to have had him on this earth for 95 years and God is lucky to have him for eternity.
