Reuben F. Hyde Dies Saturday
Services Monday
Rueben Fletcher Hyde, youngest son of William and Phoebe Edwards Hyde was born in Scotland County, Missouri, on March 25, 1876. His mother died at his birth, and he was taken to the home of his aunt Mary Elliff, where he remained until he was 16 years of age, when he returned to the Hyde homestead, to make his home with his parents and to engage in farming. He passed away at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa, March 28, 1959, at the age of 83 years and 3 days. His entire life was spent in Scotland County, Missouri. He attended school at Center Point and also attended college on College Hill in Memphis, Missouri. He was a member of the Brock Methodist Church for many years, having accepted Christ as his Savior when he was a young man. He was a faithful attendant at church until the flu of 1929, when he suffered an injury and became a semi-invalid which affected him during his entire remaining life. He was married to Grace Southmayd on January 25, 1900. To this union was born one son and four daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Grace, and seven brothers and one sister. He was the youngest, and the last of his family. He leaves to mourn his passing, two brothers-in-law, Fred Southmayd and Roy Southmayd; one son and four daughters, Arthur A. Hyde and wife Teresa, Mrs. Phoebe Bull and husband Buford, Mrs. Bessie Alyward and husband Jessie, Miss Erma Hyde, and Mrs. Laura Morris and husband Jim, all residents of Memphis. Two grandsons, Arthur Jr Hyde, and Stephen Lynn Morris; two granddaughters, Arlene Hyde and Norma June Woods, three great grandsons, James Arthur and Dennis Lynn Hyde, and Randy Max Woods, a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and other relatives. He was cared for by his daughter Erma, who made her home with him, and with the assistance of other members of the family. The deceased was a man who was interested in both the church and the affairs of the community. He kept himself well posted, and took an active part in community affairs, as far as his physical conditions would permit. Funeral services were held from the Brock Methodist Church Monday, March 30, at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Frederick Lawson and Rev. Earl Hess. Burial was in the Brock Cemetery. Body bearers were Bert Mankopf, Ted Robinson, Joe Keller, Chan Bull, Lionel Henderson, and Bernerd Harvey.
