94, formerly of 207 Lincoln St., Galesburg, Illinois died at 5:49 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2015 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.
She was born on January 3, 1921 in Galesburg to Ralph C. and Mabel Cool Dixon. She was married to Lowell Yates for almost 64 years. They married on August 29, 1941 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2005.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Dottie (and Jack) Frame of Elmwood, Illinois; a son, Dr. Roger (and Carleen) Yates of Carpentersville, Illinois; a sister, Dorothy Clatt of East Peoria, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Gwen Dixon of Red Lion, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Chris Frame, Zack Yates and Kyle Yates, three great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale Dixon and Richard Dixon; and four sisters, Evelyn Moore, Merle Edoff, Delores Goddard and Rose Marie Kremer.
Betty was a 1939 graduate of Galesburg High School. She retired from Dunsworth Book Store in 1979 after working there for 15 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the church’s Women’s Circle. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake. She loved to play Bunco with eight good friends. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, Lowell, and their grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, Mother and Grandmother.
Betty’s family would like to thank the staff of Seminary Manor and OSF Hospice for the excellent and loving care they gave to Betty over the past six years.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Pastor Mary Runge officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 Thursday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to OSF Hospice. Online condolences may be left at www.h-p-w.com.
