Born Kentucky.. Came to Texas in 1837, was a Minute Man in 1941 and became a member of the Texas Legislature twice, and three time Robertson County treasurer. Charter member of Masonic Lodge No. 359 in Franklin Texas which was named in his Honor. Married Mary Jane Reed, the daughter of Capt. Henry Reed (Battle of San Jacinto). They had two children, James Thomas Patrick and Matilda L. Moss. After the death of Mary Jane, William married Sultana Ann Moore. They had seven children, Mary Catherine Wheelis, Frank Patrick, Sallie Sandifer, and Alice Sandifer.
