Henry M. Ewers
In memory of our deceased husband, father and grandfather, Henry Ewers.
He was born August 5, 1869, a son of Manns Ewers and Engel Sophi[a] nee Flessner at New Firrl, Ostfriesland Germany. In his infancy he was baptized in the Lutheran faith and after religious instruction he was confirmed.
In the year of 1869 [sic] he came to America settling near Sterling, Johnson county, Neb.
He was united in marriage to Johanna Ottersberg in 1891. Their married life was mostly spent on a farm about four miles south of Firth, Neb. Their wedlock was blessed with 14 children. He with his wife and family were communicant member of the Christ Lutheran congregation. He was to the Lord’s Supper on Easter Sunday and once thereafter, and was to church last on Easter Sunday on account of his sickness. He was in failing health for about four years with heart trouble. He passed away July [9], 1937, at his home, his age being 67 years, 11 months, four days.
He leaves to mourn his widow and the following children: Manns of Crook, Colo. Harm and Avid of Cortland, Mrs. John H. Jurgens, Beatrice; John of Filley; Mrs. Sophia S[ch]lake, Cortland, Mrs. Julena Waltke, Firth, Mrs. Hil[s]a Helm[e]ric[h]s of Eckley, Colo.; Fred, Riek[e], Grace and Elizabeth at home, 32 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister in Germany and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, July 11 at the Christ Lutheran church with Rev. J. B. Reents in charge. The sermon was taken from Romans 14, 8-9. Burial in the church cemetery.

Peaceful be thy silent slumber
Peaceful in thy grave so low;
Thou no more wilt join our number,
Thou no more our sorrows know.
Yet again we hope to meet thee.
When the day of life is fled.
And in heaven with joy to greet thee
Where no farewell tear is shed.

Lonely the house and sad the hours
Since our dear one has gone,
But Oh! A brighter home than ours
In heaven is now his own.
