Fred Henry Evers, son of Henry Evers and his wife, nee Ottersberg, was born at Pickrell, Dec. 6, 1910.
On Jan. 7, 1911, he was baptized. He spent his youth on the farm of his parents near Christ Lutheran Church. In 1918 he moved with them to the farm home near Adams. He was confirmed on May 23, 1926, by Pastor H. Miller in Christ Lutheran Church, which he continued to attend until the time of his death.
On Feb. 10, 1939, he was united in marriage to Frieda Meints. The ceremony was performed by Pastor J. B. Reents in Zion Lutheran Church. To this union two sons and two daughters were born.
In the year 1943 he and his family moved to the farm of his mother near Adams. His mother then made her home with them.
On May 5, 1954 he fell off of a roof at the farm home and injured his neck. He was compelled to wear a neck cast for four months.
The evening of Sunday, May 1, he and his family and mother went for a drive in the car. About a mile from home their car collided with another near the crest of a hill. He was killed almost instantly. He had reached the age of 44 years, 5 months, and 25 days.
He leaves his wife, Frieda; sons, Henry and Donald; daughters, Marjorie and Norma Jean; his mother, Johanna; five brothers, Manns, Sterling, Colo., Harm, Pickrell, Avid, Beatrice, John, Crab Orchard, Rickie, Adams; and five sisters, Mrs. Lina Jurgens, and Mrs. Hilke Helmricks, Summerfield, Kan., Mrs. Sophia Schlake, Cortland, Mrs. Lena Johnson, Wymore, and Mrs. Elizabeth Jurgens, Filley, and his parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Meints.
Funeral services were held from the Griffith Funeral Home, Thursday, May 5, at 1:15 p. m. with further services at Christ Lutheran Church, Pickrell, with Pastor B. C. Wiebke officiating.
The church choir sang “I’m But A Stranger Here.” The congregation sang the anthems “Nearer My God To Thee,” “Who Knows How Soon My Days Are Ended,” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.” Pastor Wiebke preached the funeral sermon on basis of the text, ‘For I know that my redeemer liveth.” Job 19:25.
Interment was in the Christ Lutheran Church cemetery. Pallbearers were George Folkerts, Lievert Doctor, George Steele, Ollie Harms, Donald McPherson and Willie Waltke.
