SISTER IMELDA CALLED BY
DEATH AT CLINTON
WEDNESDAY
~
TAKEN ILL WHILE ON DUTY IN CLINTON
~
Body Arrived Here Thursday and Was
Taken to Mercy Hospital
Funeral Friday
~
A death that brought sorrow to the hearts of innumerable friends was that of Sister Mary Imelda, a member of the Sisters of Mercy, who passed away at Clinton, Ia., on Wednesday, April 9. The deceased had been stationed at the local Mercy Hospital but recently left for Clinton, where she had been on duty when she became seriously ill, dying a few days later.

Sister Mary Imelda was a singular virtuous woman, possessing the traits that made her admired and loved by all whom she came in contact. Her friendship was regarded as invaluable possession and her very person aspired all to that which is good. A tireless worker in the welfare of others and possessing the executive ability to efficiently perform her duties of her calling, her loss will be keenly felt among her large circle of friends.

The body of the deceased arrived in Dubuque yesterday morning and was taken to the Mercy Hospital chapel, where Monsignor Heer of St. Mary's Church was celebrant of a requiem high mass on Friday morning. The clergymen in the sanctuary were; Rev. Father Stuart, president of Dubuque College, Rev. Father Sullivan, Chaplin of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, and Rev. Farther O'Malley of St. Anthony's Church. The sermon on the occasion, which was an unusually beautiful one, was delivered by Rev. Father Rohlman of Dubuque College. He testified to the character of the deceased stating that she was a noble example of the supreme sacrifice that is made by those whom God has called to a religious life.

Interment followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Monsignor Heer and Reverend Father Sullivan officiating at the graveside. The casket was borne by Dan Eagan, Frank Kirk, Eugene Reilly, Patrick Woods, John Cavanaugh and John Somerville.

Note: No last name was given in obituary.
