Joachim Christian "John" Heiden was my great-grandfather. He was the son of John Christoph and Marie Fredericka Sophia (Meyer) Heiden. He married his first wife, Fredericka Lehmann, in Germany and they came to America with their five children: Fredericka, William, John August, Henry and Charles aboard the ship Herman, arriving in Baltimore, Maryland on November 8, 1883. They came to the Walworth County area. His wife died shortly afterwards. He then married Johanna Voss in Sharon, Wisconsin on December 25, 1887. They had three children: Louis William, Minnie Caroline and Louise Minnie. He farmed for many years before moving into Lake Geneva. John was very active even in his later years, walking 10 blocks a day, sometimes twice in one day, at the age of 92.
