She was the daughter of John and Fredericka (Lehmann) Heiden. She came to America with her parents and siblings in 1883. Her mother died when she was a teenager and Fredericka did a lot in the raising of her younger siblings. She married Carl August Schultz on December 28, 1884 in Walworth County and they had five children: Herman Martin, Margaret Emily, Hattie, Mary, Esther.
