Evan LaDell Olsen

Evan LaDell Olsen, age 87, of Roosevelt, returned to heaven to be with previously deceased members of his family on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Sr. Villa.

Evan was born December 28, 1927 in Neola to John Albert and Clara Malinda Johnson Olsen, he was the youngest of 12 children.

He served in the Navy during WWII. He married Alice Todd, his high school sweetheart, on June 11, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He worked for the Ford tractor company for 7 years, then at Hi-Land Dairy for 19 years. He then worked for the BIA.

He served in numerous church callings through the years, including serving as a Bishop and as a temple worker in both the Provo and Vernal Temples. He and Alice served a mission in Peoria, Illinois, and they delighted in the people and the area. He was honored as the Legendary Cowboy for the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo and he was given the distinction of being the Grand Marshall for the Neola 4th of July Rodeo.

Evan enjoyed sports, fishing, hunting, cattle, horses and working on his ranch. His family was everything to him and he always worked hard to provide for them. He was very supportive and delighted in their accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Alice Olsen, children, Gordon “Woody” (NaDean) Olsen, Kent (Kathleen “Deedle”) Olsen, Bryce (Gayle) Olsen, Kathleen (Jeff) Mickelsen, Stewart (Sheryl) Olsen, daughter-in-law, JoLyn Olsen Hollady, 22 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Chris Todd Olsen, and siblings, Birnell, Zola, Geneva, Clifford, Clara, Myrtle, Glenn, Richard, Lerwill “Swede”, Iona “Tony”, and Luella.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roosevelt 11th Ward LDS Chapel. Viewings will be held on Monday evening at the Hullinger Mortuary from 6 - 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the church 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Neola Cemetery with military honors presented by the Roosevelt American Legion and the Utah National Guard.
