Iona Olsen "Toni" Gardner, age 90, of Roosevelt, passed away January 30, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born October 4, 1923, in Neola, to John Albert and Clara Malinda Johnson Olsen.

She married Mervin LeRoy "Roy" Gardner, on May 21, 1943, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died November 2, 2002.

Toni was a hardworking, kind woman who found great joy in serving others. She lived almost all of her life on the 100 acre homestead in Neola where her parents settled. The house, however, didn't stay the same because Toni enjoyed remodeling and she herself did the work on the many changes. It was said of her, she often had a spatula in one hand and a hammer in the other. She was very happy to share those skills with her children and grandchildren.

She was an avid gardener, an excellent cook (she seemed to whip up anything out of nothing), and could sew and crochet. She was the biggest Jazz fan in Utah.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings, including an ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple. She and Roy served in the Indian Mission when they were younger.

Toni loved her family and was regarded by many of the nieces and nephews as the favorite aunt. She adored spending time with her grandchildren.

Toni is survived by her children, Janet (Lynn) Snow, Lessle Roy (Lanette) Gardner, both of Roosevelt; Gae Lynn Thomas, Salt Lake City; JoE (Amber) Gardner, Vernal; and Sheela Rae (Gil) Mitchell, Roosevelt; 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; a brother, Evan (Alice) Olsen, Neola; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; parents; two grandsons, Adam and Ryan Gardner; brothers Burnell, Clifford, Richard, Glen, and Lerwill Olsen; sisters, Zola Spencer, Geneva Whiting, Clara Timothy, Myrtle Sorenson, and Luella Sullivan.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the Roosevelt 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 250 West 200 North.

Viewings will be on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and from 10-10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Burial will be in the Neola Cemetery
