General Jackson "GJ" Westberry was born September 29, 1864 in Hamilton County Florida. He was the first son of William S. Westberry and Martha Hiers Renfro Westberry. Shortly after the death of his father, William S., General Jackson moved to Brooks County Georgia with his mother, three brothers and two sisters. General Jackson married Marietta Elizabeth Folsom (b. July 26, 1860, d. 1912) about 1884. She was born July 26, 1860, daughter of Lawrence A. Folsom and his wife, Mary Rodgers. General Jackson Westberry and Marietta Elizabeth Folsom Westberry had eight children: Walter Emerson, James Ansil, Linnie Mae, Owen Leonard, Loren Howell, Willie Jefferson, Rosie Lee and Bessie Clayton. Shortly after the birth of their last child, General Jackson left his family. According to older family members, General Jackson was a wanderer and farmer who lived mainly in the areas of Berrien, Brooks, Clinch, Lowndes, and Echols Counties, Georgia. Upon the death of Marietta, about 1912, General Jackson returned briefly for the funeral and was denied entrance to the family home because he had left them. General Jackson also married Maybelle Croft on January 16, 1926 in Brooks County, Georgia after the death of his first wife in 1912. At the time of his death General Jackson was living with one of his sons. General Jackson Westberry died October 26, 1951 in Moultrie Georgia. He is buried at Campground Cemetery, Morven, Georgia (grave only marked by an old metal funeral home marker).
