James Ancil Westberry was born on December 28, 1888 in Brooks County, Georgia. He was the son of General Jackson "GJ" Westberry (b. September 29, 1864, Hamilton County, Florida, d. October 26, 1951, Moultrie, Colquitt County, Georgia) and Marietta Elizabeth Folsom (b. July 26, 1860, (place unknown), d. between 1912-1914, Colquitt County, Georgia). He married 1) Lura Elizabeth Butler (b. April 21, 1890 in Brooks County, Georgia, d. June 17, 1928, Miami, Dade County, Florida) on May 06, 1906 in Colquitt County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Harmen Jasper Butler (b. March 24, 1853 (place unknown), d. May 29, 1928, Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia) and Elizabeth Crosby (b. December 12, 1851, (place unknown), d. February 19, 1925, Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia). To James and Lura were born 8 children: Lloyd Ralph Westberry (b. September 29, 1907, Valdosta, Lowndes County, Georgia, d. April 17, 1989, Lake Placid, Highlands County, Florida), Harvey Westberry ( b. December 29, 1910, Berlin, Brooks, Georgia, d. June 03, 1913, Berlin, Brooks County. Georgia), Fane Harris Westberry (b. October 12, 1912, Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia, d. January 08, 1974, Dallas, Dallas County, Florida), James Ancil Westberry Jr. (b. September 08, 1914, Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia, d. February 22, 1992, Orlinda, Robertson County, Tennessee), Pauline Wilma Westberry (b. August 04, 1916, Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia, d. January 06, 1989, Rockledge, Brevard County, Florida), Hugh Jasper Westberry (b. August 04, 1919, Berlin, Colquitt County, Florida, d. November 17, 1989, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas), Leroy Westberry (b. September 19, 1921, Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia, d. September 14, 2004, Vero Beach, Indian River County, Florida), and 1 son still living. James Ansil Westberry & Lura Elizabeth Butler Westberry were a farming family. James did not like farming and decided to sell his home in Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia and move south. They lived for a short time in North Florida and eventually moved to Miami, Dade County, Florida about 1925. James worked as a sanatation worker and eventually a nursery man for the city of Coral Gables, Dade County, Florida. After the birth of their last child, the doctors advised Lura and her husband that she should not have any more children. Unfortunately, she became pregnant again and died shortly after. Lura Elizabeth Butler Westberry died on June 17, 1928 after a short illness. She was 36 years old at the time of her passing. Her body was sent back to Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia on a train with her husband accompanying the body. Burial was in the Wesley Chapel Graveyard, Berlin, Colquitt County, Georgia. Following her death, James Ancil Westberry remarried. He married 2) Alice Lourine Spencer (b. September 29, 1906, Key West, Monroe County, Florida, d. May 17, 1970, Miami, Dade County, Florida) on April 29, 1929, Miami, Dade County, Florida. To James Ancil Westberry and Alice Lourine Spencer Westberry were born 5 children. One child was still born and a second lived a short time after birth. Three of the children were girls that all lived into adulthood and as of this posting are still alive. When Alice married James Ancil, she took on the responsibility of caring for his first wife's 7 living children as well as the three she had with James. She was a kind and fine Christian lady. A caring and loving person to all of the children and everyone she met. It is remembered, "Grandma Alice", as the grandchildren called her, worked for years at Shenandoah Chocolates so she could earn enough money to buy all of the children and grandchildren presents at Christmas. She was fair and treated everyone in the family with love and respect. Alice Lourine Spencer Westberry died on May 17, 1970 and is buried next to her husband, James Ancil Westberry and her parents at Flagler Memorial Park in Miami, Dade County, Florida. James Ancil Westberry died on May 17, 1974 in Miami, Dade County, Florida. He is buried at Flagler Memorial Park in Miami, Dade County, Florida alongside his second wife and her parents.
