Porter Garvin Clark was the son of William Henry Clark and his second wife, Sarah Frances Hatcher. Porter married Betty Florence Parker on 24 December 1899 in Kentucky. They were the parents of daughters Lillian, Nellie (Clark) Mize, Nina (Clark) Conken, Lucille (Clark) Swope, Eunice Maynard (Clark) Grider, and Thelma Louise (Clark) Milburn; and sons William Richard, Claud, Bernice, and Sammie. All were born in Kentucky, prior to the family's move to Hoopeston on 5 May 1926.
