second wife of Joseph Bailly the Indian fur trader.

Many of the Swedish immigrants arrived here practicall destitute and several such families obtained employment at the Bailly estate. Among these were Carl Persson and his wife, Emma. When MRS. JOSEPH BAILLY died on Sept 15, 1866, Mrs. Emma Persson prepared her for burial and her husband Carl, drove the ox-cart which brought the body to Bailly Hill where she was laid to rest by the side of her husband. A Holy Cross Father had sometime previously been sent to consecrate Joseph Bailly's grave, but the cemetery itself was never consecrated.
