Alice Gray was born in Sauk Centre to Jack and Maria (Schaefer) Allen. She taught in rural schools around Sauk Centre for three years and later attended St. Cloud Teachers College and Oklahoma Teachers College, Edmond. She married Earl L. Gray on Aug. 7, 1928, in Ashley Township, Stearns County. The couple lived in Merrifield for one year. She taught school near Ekalaka, Mont., for one year. The couple moved to Washington, D.C., where they worked in the 1930 Census. She then went to college in Edmond, Okla., and graduated in 1933. The couple moved back to Washington, D.C., for several years where she was employed by National Recovery Act. The couple moved to St. Paul in 1936, where she was a grade V secretary working for the Resettlement administration. She was employed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for a year, Minnesota Forestry Dept for four years, the IRS for 5 years and 5 years for Social Security. She retired in 1970. The couple moved to Sauk Centre and she lived there until moving to Glenwood in 1995. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Sauk Centre.
She died at Glacial Ridge Hospital, Glenwood.
