Funeral Services for Howard Allen, 73, retired NP employee and a native of Sauk Centre, were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Corrigan Funeral Home, the Rev. Raymond Dressler, pastor, at the First Methodist church officiating. Burial was at Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Freeman, Irv Pettit, Robert Lewis, Everett Wolfe, Norman Bohne and Ted Allen. Mr. Allen died Saturday, Oct. 20, at 4:30 p.m. He had been in ill health for about 6 years. Death which was attributed to a coronary came as he walked home form a shopping trip. Howard Allen was born in Sauk Centre Aug. 22, 1889, the late son of John H. and Maria Allen. He attended public schools in Sauk Centre from about 1895 to 1905. Other places of residence were Crystal Springs and Dawson, N.D. Mr. Allen had never married. Preceding him in death were his parents. Mr. Allen had been in the employ of the Northern Pacific Railroad for about 40 years. He retired from his position as telegraph operator in 1952. Most of his service was in North Dakiota. Mr. Allen was a member of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers and here at one time belonged to the Americal Legion. He had taken part in various engagements in the AEF, WWI, and was wounded in action. Sports participated in by Mr. Allen were hunting and fishing. Survivig are two brothers, Harry F, of Burtrum and Ben H. of Hillsboro, Oregan and two sisters, Mrs. Alice M. Gray of St. Paul and Katie H. Burow of Sauk Centre. Friends and realatives attending from a distance were Ben H. Allen, Hillsboro, Ore, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Himstem, of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Allen, Burtrum and Mr. and Mrs. E. Gray, St. Paul.
