Alexander and Elizabeth were both natives of Tennessee. They were probably married in Tennessee about 1829, but it could have been in Vermillion County, Illinois. They are in the 1830 census for Vermillion Co., Illinois, but soon followed the rest of the Tompkins family up to Putnam County, Illinois, which is now Bureau Co. Illinois. They were one of the first settlers in Arispe, Bureau Co. Illinois. In 1833, Alexander made a claim near the east line of the county. They are in the 1840 and 1850 census for Bureau County, Illinois. They can not be located in the 1860 or 1870 census. Elizabeth is living with the Henry Holbrook family in 1880, in Arispie, Bureau Co., Illinois. In 1885, Elzabeth was living near Tiskilwa, Illinois.

The newspaper "Boone County Republican" Febr 26, 1892 - Mrs. Alexander Holbrook died in Iowa, on Febr. 24, 1892, and her body will be returned here for burial. Her husband died many years ago.
