Martha Vermeer
Funeral services were Saturday, July 4, 1992, for Mrs. Martha Vermeer, 89, of Boyden, at the First Reformed Church of Boyden with the Rev. Mark Volkers officiating. She passed away Wednesday, July 1, at the Orange City Municipal Nursing Home.
Martha was born March 7, 1903, at Orange City, the daughter of Gerrit and Gertrude (Hoekstra) Mulder. She was raised at Orange City. On February 9,1927, she married John Vermeer at Orange City. They farmed at Boyden, moving into town in 1953. He passed away July 8, 1984, at Boyden.
In 1987 Mrs. Vermeer became a resident of the nursing home. She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Boyden where she had been a Sunday School and catechism teacher and was active in the women's organizations. She also belonged to the Women's Citizenship Club of Boyden.
Survivors include her two daughters, Luella, and her husband, Casey Smit of Boyden and Marjorie Chassels of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; two daughters-in-law, Jo Vermeer of Boyden and Bertha Vermeer of Sioux Center; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Edgar and Harvey, two grandsons, five brothers and three sisters.
Interment was at Sheridan Township Cemetery at Boyden, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
