Frances Josephine (Martin) Bennett, age 93, of Janesville and formerly of Soldiers Grove, died on Thursday evening, Nov. 7, 2013, in Janesville.

She was born on Sept. 10, 1920, in Soldiers Grove, WI where she lived most of her life, and was a 1938 graduate of Soldiers Grove High School.

She was the oldest child of Harvey and Effie (Smith) Martin. Frances married Robert P. Bennett on Dec. 14, 1940, in Elkader, Iowa. She worked in local restaurants, but her greatest joy was raising and spending time with her family.

She was an accomplished seamstress, and a great cook. Her family looked forward to her Sunday fried chicken dinner. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and playing cards, especially Euchre and Skip-Bo. She loved the color green, 3 Musketeers bars, opening gifts, and never said no to ice cream. She always remembered the dates that were special to the people she loved and sent a card. Her family will miss her dearly and will always remember her ruby red lips.

She is survived by her children: Robert (Marianne) Bennett of Janesville, Sharon (Jim) Davidson of Janesville, Jerry (Lisa) Bennett of Verona, and Kathy (Dan) Sladek of McFarland; son-in-law, Bill Turnmire of Rockford, IL; 11 grandchildren: Bill (Dana) Turnmire, Vicki and Babbie Turnmire, Tina (Steve) Hulick, Tammy (Fred) Bradley, Tally (Kyle Tanner) Bennett, Rob (Jennifer) Davidson, Brittany and Brandon Bennett, Lauren and Colin Sladek; 15 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren; and her 3 sisters: Darlene Buroker, Elaine Lettman and Alice Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Janice Turnmire; great grandson; 2 sisters, Gloria Davis and Betty Long; and a step-brother, Clifford Martin.
