Eugene Sweet, 88, of Hartshorne, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Heritage Hills Living Center in McAlester. Born March 3, 1927, in Hartshorne, he was the son of John Synden Cleveland Sweet and Fannie M. (James) Sweet. He served in the United States Army and married Vivian Stanley on July 27, 1947, in Reno, Nevada. He was a life member of Elks Lodge, the Plunkett-Hancock American Legion Post No. 180 in Hartshorne and the 82nd Airborne Division Association. He was of the Presbyterian faith. Survivors include two sons, Cleveland E. Sweet and Terry L. Sweet; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother: Harvey Sweet, and three sisters, Myrtle (Sweet) Morgan, Billie (Sweet) Montgomery and Bernice (Sweet) Robertson. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bobby Sweet, and great-great-granddaughter, Klisha Lucille Brown. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Elmwood Cemetery Pavilion in Hartshorne with Pastor Chesder Cooley officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne.
