EARLY, Denny Gene, Sr., 72, of Roanoke, died Monday, August 4, 2003. Denny graduated from William Fleming High School and later from National Business College. He retired from Norfolk & Southern Railroad after 36 years of service, retiring as manager of the piggy back department. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Willie Mae Nichols Early; one son and daughter-in-law, Denny Gene Early, Jr. and Donna Goodwin Early; two grandchildren, Jennifer Lauren Early and Tyler Goodwin Early; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Early Woodson and Fred A. Woodson; one sister-in-law, Sue Nichols Grisso; two nieces, Shelly Renee Wood and Amy Elizabeth Ribble; one nephew, Barry Lee Mixon, Jr. Also other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews survive. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Jim Rivers and the Rev. Carl Tinsley officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 5001 W. Broad St., Suite 217, Richmond, Virginia 23230. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 5, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel, (989-3131).
