James Claude Mauldin of 1712 Walnut died Friday at 8 a.m. in Gladewater. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Chapel with the Revs. Ben Smith and Thomas Beall officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 7, 1901 in Hunt County to James H. and Emily Steed Mauldin. He was married to Florence Leora Thomason Feb. 16, 1919 in Wagoner (sic). She preceded him in death on Oct. 9, 1965. He married Sadie Harper June 3, 1966. Mr. Mauldin was a retired public weigher and a member of the North Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; sons, Claude Mauldin Jr. of Tenaha, Travis and Leo Mauldin of Greenville, and Newman Mauldin of Tawakoni; daughters, Helen Lewis and Virginia Claghorn (sic), both of Greenville, and June Cook of Oklahoma City; brothers, Roy Mauldin of Greenville and Gail Mauldin of North Carolina; sisters, Mrs. Leland Bagwell and Bessie Brown, both of Greenville; stepsons, J.C. Harper of Louisiana, Roy and James Harper, both of Greenville.

Also surviving are 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and a daughter.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
