The community of Jay, New York was saddened to hear of the passing of Edward Chabbott, 77, at his home in Jay on Tuesday, July 12, 1966, following an illness of several weeks.

He was born on February 6, 1889, in Black Brook, New York, the son of George and Mary (Patneaude) Chabbott. His family moved to Jay when he was a small child.

He was married on June 21, 1911, to Nellie Madden, who survives him. Besides his widow, he left to mourn his loss a daughter, Mrs. Paul Stackpole (Florence) of Au Sable Forks, New York, and sister, Mrs. Everette Lowman, of Delmar, New York. Another daughter, Mrs. John Nugent (Kathryn), died July 25, 1960. Other survivors included three grandchildren, Mrs. Giles Maloney of Plattsburgh, New York, Mrs. Daniel Parrow of Au Sable Forks, New York, and Gerald Nugent of Jay, New York. He also leaves four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Thursday morning, July 14, 1966, at the Holy Name Church in Au Sable Forks, where a Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. John Downs. Bearers were Jack Devlin, Ben Hathaway, Ralph Otis, Ray Sprague, Francis Trombley, and Stanley Walsh. Burial was in Holy Name Cemetery in Au Sable Forks.

For most of his adult life Mr. Chabbott ran a large dairy farm. He loved his land, and each year he raised many vegetables and flowers. He thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet of his home. He liked the out-of-doors, and his favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing in his native Adirondacks.

Mr. Chabbott will be greatly missed, not only by his immediate family but also by his many friends and neighbors, both young and old. He was devoted to his family, and he was always kind and fair to all who knew him. The many expressions of sympathy shown to his family at the time of Mr. Chabbott's death attested to the high esteem in which he was held.
