Joseph William Holman - was the son of John William Holman and Elizabeth "Eliza" (Settle) Holman.

He was born near Smith's Grove, Warren County, Kentucky September 10th, 1842 and died March 14, 1934 at Erick, Oklahoma.

He was a Union Soldier faithfully serving his Country during the American Civil War. He was fresh out of medical school when the war started. He was with 9th KY Cav and Buell's Army of Ohio. They participated in many battles and skirmishes such as the Battle at Shiloh,Tennessee, Perrysville KY, Elizabeth Town, KY and elsewhere.

After the war Joseph married his first wife Mary Francis Beckham November 1865. They were the parents of four children: Artia "Artie" (Holman) Roberts, Elmer, Mary Ella "Ellie" (Holman) Wood and Mary's twin brother died shortly after birth. Dr. Holman's first wife died at an early age and he married a second time to Martha Jane "Mattie" Lowrance 1890 Laclede County, Missouri.

Dr. Holman was also a teacher, farmer and friend to many.
He was a Christian and a loving husband, loving father and grandfather. He died of cancer atthe age of 92 years and several months.

He is buried beside his second wife of 44 years Martha Jane "Mattie" (Lowrance) Holman at the Erick Cemetery, Erick, Oklahoma. Dr. Holman was a real family Patriarch.
He was missed dearly by family and friends.
