Charles W. Averett, 71, former employee of the Oregon Short Line, died Saturday at his home of heart disease.
Mr. Averett was born in Mt. Pleasant, February 26, 1882, a son of Washington and Elizabeth Coates Averett. He married Mary Christensen on October 1, 1885. He served three terms as city marshal at Mt. Pleasant, moving to Ogden in 1918. He was employed for 14 years by the railroad, retiring two years ago on account of ill health. He had been confined to his home since last December.
Surviving are the widow and eight sons and daughters; Mrs. J. B. Marberger, Mrs. John Buswell, Mrs. John M. Vance, Charles F., Jay and Lloyd Averett, Ogden; Mrs. John Farris, San Francisco; Thomas Averett, Latuda; four brothers and a sister, William M. Averett, Mt. Pleasant; John Averett, Ione, Idaho; James Averett, Clear Creek; and Mrs. Annie Luke, Castle Dale; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
