Hubert Thomas Zimmerman, 93, of Evington, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005. He shared 54 happy years of Marriage with the late Joyce Dolvin (Beasley) Zimmerman. He was born Jul 2, 1911, in Bedford, son of the late John Labon Zimmerman and the late Virginia Lee Updike Zimmerman. He was the youngest and last surviving member of his family of eight brothers, Albert, Gilbert, Rufus, Johnny, Elmo, Jennings, Robert and Sidney; and 10 sisters: Dora Z. Atkinson, Bettie Z. Atkinson, Maggie Z. Montry, Lula Z. Dobyns, Mary Z. Leftwich, Bessie Z. Coleman, Elsie Zimmerman, Grace Z. Fizer, Carrie Z. Harris, And Floy (Polly) Z. Overstreet. He was an active member of Beulah Baptist Church, Lynchburg, for more than 50 years, where he had served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Properties and Cemetery Committees, and a strong supporter of the youth programs. Due to declining health, he was made an honorary member of the Lyn-Dan Heights Ruritan Club with 25 years of perfect attendance. He retired from Lynchburg Foundry after 33 years of employment. He is survived by his children, Ann Z. Gilliam and her husband, V. Max Sr., of Evington, and Sherwood Nelson Zimmerman and his wife, Patsy, of Sherman, Ill.; six grandchildren, Vern M. Gilliam Jrs. and his wife, Jackie, Lynchburg, Tom N. Gilliam and his wife, Coleen, Madison Heights, Debbie G. Wright and her husband, Tom, Colonial Heights, Pam G. Hromco and her husband, George, Atlantic Beach, Fla., Sherrie Z. Beard and her husband, Richard, Columbia, S.C., and Sherwood N. (Chip) Zimmerman II, and his wife, Lisa, Clovis, Calif.; 10 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Aaron, and Maegann Wright, Courtney Hromco, Whitney, Melissa, Daniel, and Andrew Rossman, Matthew and Amy Zimmerman; three step-great-grandchildren, Jason and Joey White and Tabitha Seay; a brother-in-law, Loyd Harris, Bedford, and many loving and caring nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at Tharp Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, Ann. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, in Beulah Baptist Church, with the Rev. Grover Putnam, Dr. Maurice McCarthy, and Dr. Carl Collins officiating, with burial to follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
