Ethelyn attended Jonesport schools and was proud to have received her GED at Presque Isle High School while raising her family. Before marriage Ethelyn worked for a time in New Jersey. She received telephone operator training in Houlton then moved to Presque Isle for a permanent job. There she met her husband Harold Haines who also was a telephone company employee. They married Dec. 6, 1946. Ethelyn devoted her life to her husband and children. There wasn't a thing she wouldn't do for them, monthy trips to Bangor for orthodontest appointments, being nurse in time of sickness, plus following all her children's activities.
She enjoyed cooking, painting, her camp on St. Froid Lake, time with her Kelley family, and neighborhood get togethers. She was a life member of Eastern Star. In later years Ethelyn and Harold moved to Veazie to be closer to family.
She is survived by her daughter; her son; her sisters; grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Harold Haines, daughters, Linda Ledger and Susan Gross, siblings Royal Kelley, Virginia Worster, Myrtle Alley,and Buddy Kelley.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Monday January 12, 2015 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. Bangor, with the Rev. Dale Holden, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call from noon until the time of service on Monday.
Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, following the service.
