Harold was the son of Fred McKenzie Haines of Fort Fairfield, Aroostook County, Maine and Geneva Marceline Bourgeois.

VEAZIE and PRESQUE ISLE - Harold Frederick Haines, 84, died peacefully March 7, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born Dec. 25, 1922, in Perth, New Brunswick, the son of Fred M. and Geneva (Bourgeois) Haines. Harold was raised in the Fort Fairfield and Presque Isle area before moving to Veazie. He was a member of the Trinity Lodge No. 130 AF & AM where he was a 50-year member, the Lunar Chapter No. 126 OES, both of Presque Isle, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory 32nd Degree, and the Anah Shriners. Harold worked for more than 35 years for New England Telephone and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ethelyn L. (Kelley) Haines of Veazie; children, Richard Haines and wife, Sherry, of Caribou, Lynn Tweedie and husband, Jerry, of Houlton, Linda Ledger and husband, Jim, of New Gloucester and Harold Haines Jr. of Bangor; 10 grandchildren, Heather, Kevin, Kori, Ryan, Stacy, Jeremy, Kara, Kristopher, Jason and Eric; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Susan M. Gross. Friends are invited to visit with the family 10-11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will begin 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ezra Chapola and the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, Director of Chaplaincy Services of Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
