Hans Peter Jorgensen was born on 12 May 1906, in Sharon Township of Audubon Co., IA to Erik Nielsen & Sidsel Marie Madsen Jorgensen. He had three sisters: Lena, Anna and Hannah; and one brother, George.
"H.P.", or "Pete" as he was called, started custom work at age 14 with a pull-type corn sheller, Sanwich, with a Tyton tractor to pull it. He bought a straight truck at age 17 and organized the H.P. Jorgensen Trucking business.
Hans Peter Jorgensen, Sr. married Carrie Marie Christensen, daughter of John N. and Anna (Knutsen) Christensen. H.P. and Carrie grew up on neighboring farms. Both were members of the Danish Lutheran Church in Audubon. They were married by Rev. Fred C.M. Hansen on 30 Nov 1926. They continued the trucking business and custom work. The trucking business became known as H.P. Jorgensen and Sons, and was located along Highway 71 in Audubon.
Carrie kept busy as a homemaker by raising their 12 children, in church, and with neighborhood clubs. She died on 2 May 1972 after several years' illness.
