∼PROMINENT PIONEER OF MOUNT PLEASANT DIES AFTER SHORT ILLNESS
MOUNT PLEASANT -- Mrs. Williamina Henrietta M. ERICKSEN, 75, widow of Henry ERICKSEN, former prominent business man of this city, died at the family home Sunday noon, after a short illness, from complications following influenza.
Mrs. ERICKSEN, whose activities had been many and varied, was the first Western Union telegraph operator in Mount Pleasant, and in home home also was located the first telephone line in operation here, a local line between Fairview and Mount Pleasant. She learned telegraphy as a young woman and was in charge of the local Western Union office until 1892.
She was born in Ephraim on March 13, 1859, and came to Mount Pleasant with her parents, William and Margaret F. C. MORRISON in the summer of the same year. The family lived in the pioneer fort four years.
Her mother was the first president of the Mount Pleasant Relief society and held this office 40 years.
Mrs. ERICKSEN in her early girlhood was an adept in dressmaking and also in millinery.
She served as president of the Y.L.M.I.A. from 1892 to 1901 and was Relief Society president for North Sanpete LDS stake from 1900 to 1920.
She had been an active LDS temple worker, served several years as president of the Mount Pleasant chapter, Daughters of Pioneers, and was a member of the stake genealogical society and a director of the Mount Pleasant Pioneer Historical association at the time of her death.
She was married October 24, 1878, in the Salt Lake LDS endowment house in Salt Lake City to Henry ERICKSON, who died November 06, 1934.
Surviving are five sons and daughters: Mrs. P. A. PEEL, Mrs. S. M. NIELSEN, H. G. and Sterling M. ERICKSEN and Mrs. Chesley P. SEELEY; thirteen grandchildren, and a brother, William MORRISON, all of Mount Pleasant.
Funeral Services will be conducted in the South Ward LDS Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, under direction of the Jacobs Funeral Home.
