AUSTIN, Texas - Evan L. Scowden, 85, of Round Rock, died Monday (Dec. 15, 2014) of natural causes. He was born on April 21, 1929, in Bradford, Pa., to Leslie and Lois Gould Scowden. After graduating from Bradford Senior High in 1948, Evan enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Germany, participating in the Berlin Air Lift as an aircraft mechanic. In 1951, he married Nola Marie Pattison, also of Bradford. Evan and Nola celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on June 30. Evan worked at the Pennsylvania Electric Co. for 38 years, retiring as chief lineman and moving to Round Rock in 1991. In 1984, Evan received Penelec's first-ever Good Idea award. Evan was a loving husband, father, and friend with a commanding stature and a compassionate heart. He always made sure to find out if a family member or friend needed help, and quietly took care of the need. Evan served as a Freemason for more than 50 years and was a 32nd Degree Master Mason in the Coudersport Consistory. Evan was an avid golfer with a hole-in-one at the Pine Acres Country Club in Bradford, and was known to enjoy the 19th hole. He loved the outdoors and spent one day a week volunteering at a local ranch for many years. Evan enjoyed Crossword and Jumble puzzles and frequently worked a hard puzzle on the back porch past dark.
Evan is survived by his wife, Nola, of Round Rock; son, Douglas Alan (Sandy) Scowden; daughter, Kerry Lynne (Mark) Flood; daughter, Molly Elizabeth; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; a niece; and two nephews.
