OBITUARY Iron River Reporter Feb 6 1950 "Irving Peterson, War II Veteran, Dies Yesterday"
Irving H. Peterson, 40, of Gaastra, a War II veteran of the Luzon campaign, died yesterday at 11:30 a.m. at Stambaugh General hospital where he had been a patient for one week.
The remains are at the Johns funeral home where services will be held Tuesday afternoon with full military rites.
The rites will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow with Rev. Earl G. Gustafson officiating and the Reino Legion post of Stambaugh according military honors at interment in Stambaugh cemetery vault.
Mr. Peterson was born in Norway, Mich. Jan. 22, 1910 and came to Gaastra as an infant with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Peterson, in April of the same year. He attended Gaastra school and was graduated from Stambaugh high school in 1929. He was employed at the Ford Motor Co. plant in Iron Mountain prior to his entry into army service Dec. 18, 1942. He was wounded during the Luzon battle in the northern Philippines while serving as a corporal with an army combat unit and he was subsequently a patient at U.S. Army hospitals in Galesburg, Ill. and Battle Creek, Mich. He was discharged May 17, 1947.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Hilda Peterson of Gaastra; three sisters, Mrs. Byron Battye and Miss Mae Peterson, both of Gaastra, Mrs. Ernest Friestrom, Iron Mountain, and a brother Arvid Peterson, Gaastra.
