OBITUARY Iron River Reporter Nov 21 1973 "Mildred Battye Dies, Was 69"
Mildred E. Battye, 69, Indian Lake, died after a six-week illness on Thursday, November 15 at Crystal Falls Community Hospital.
Mrs. Battye was born January 21, 1904 in Norway, Mich. and came to Gaastra in 1906, and lived there until her death. She graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1923 and from Marquette Normal, now Northern Michigan UNiversity, in 1927. She taught in the Stambaugh public schools until 1935. The former Mildred Peterson was married to Byron Battye in 1935 and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1968. Mrs. Battye and her husband owned and operated the Economy Market in Gaastra for 25 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a pianist and Sunday school teacher there.
Funeral services were at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, November 17 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Clayton Parcels, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiated.
William Harris sang "Abide With Me" and "In The Garden," accompanied by Mrs. Paul Wilson.
Pallbearers were Leonard Holmes, Edward Camps, Leonard Gasperini, Ronald Sherwood, Brook Smith and Gary Stolberg.
Interment was in Stambaugh Cemetery.
Brooks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
