Born December 28, 1921 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Espeneda Sterner Auchey. He was the husband of Evelyn R. Garrett Auchey to whom he was married 48 years.
He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Hanover Lodge 227; The McSherrystown Home Association; and the National AARP.
Having worked in the auto body and paint profession for many years Auchey began the Auchey and Sons Body Shop on South High Street in Hanover in 1949 and remained the owner/operator until turning the business over to his sons, Jack and Jay in 1983.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four sons, Jack A. Auchey, Jay M. Auchey, Jed D. Auchey, all of Hanover and Jan M. Auchey of East Berlin; three daughters, Christine L. Mills and Donna E. Epley of Hanover and Barbara A. Bond of McSherrystown; 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a brother, Clyde Auchey of Hanover; and two sisters, Jean Kessler and Thelma Evans, both of Hanover.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery with his pastor the Rev. Eric P. Wogan officiating.
