Edward Dozier grew up in Williamsburg District, SC, and enlisted in Company F of the 6th South Carolina Cavalry Regiment in July 1862. He rose to the rank of sergeant and was wounded in July 1864 in action in Virginia. After the war, he moved west to California.
Per his death certificate, Edward Charles Dozier died on 9 Oct 1919 at the St. Joseph's Hospital on North California Street in the city of Stockton, San Joaquin County, CA. He was treated by the staff, which included Dr. William P. J. Lynch of Stockton. Dr. Lynch determined that Mr. Dozier died of "Arterio Sclerosis." Mr. Dozier was thereafter taken to the Park View Crematory on 11 Oct 1919. It is unknown as to the disposition of the ashes. The funeral arrangements were in the care of DeYoung and Conklin of Stockton, CA. The informant for the personal information in the death certificate was Dr. Linwood Dozier of Stockton. Mr. Dozier was white, married, and retired. He was married to J. D. Dozier. Mr. Dozier was born on 17 Aug 1843 in South Carolina. He was 76 years, 1 month, and 22 days old when he died. His father and mother were both born in South Carolina. His father was Anthony Dozier and the maiden name of his mother was Mary Cuttine. It is unknown as to how long Mr. Dozer had been in California.
