Son of Elmer and Martha Williams Cowan.
Married Arloine Sommer October 1, 1950. She preceded him in death June 23, 2000.
Married Karlyn Demaree in 2002. She survives.
Also surviving are children LuAnn Cowan Robertson and John Cowan; second son Brian Ojala; step-children John Kim (Beth) Demaree, Roxanne (Andy) Mitchell, and Lisa (Jack) Rozwat; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister Esther Houston; son-in-law Dr. Duane Gillam.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, daughter Cheryl Cowan, and brother Fred Cowan.

Attended Crawfordsville High School.
1950 graduate of Purdue Pharmacy School.

Aserved in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-56.

In 1956, he partnered with Delue Akerman of Akerman Drugs, then purchased the store in 1968. He developed Parkside Pharmacy, Parkwood Health Care, Countryside and Golfside sub-divisions.

He was involved in many community organizations and served as President of Rotary, Jaycess and the Chamber of Commerce, was a 50 year member of the John Purdue Club, a Paul Harris Rotary Fellow recipient, a member of Ulen Country Club and Central Christian Church.
He received the Pharmacy Bowl of Hygea and the Glen Sperandio Community Pharmacy Award.

He enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, going to Purdue athletic events and watching the Indianapolis Colts.

Service 10am Wednesday at Strawmyer and Drury Mortuary.
Visitation 4-8pm Tuesday.
