Harry A. "Chub" Shaffstall, 61, of Franklin RD 3, died suddenly in his home at 7:45 om Friday. He suffered from a heart ailment and had been in failing health for the past four years. He was born in Wayne Township, Crawford County, Oct. 18, 1899, son of Arthur and Jane Whitman Shaffstall.

He came to Franklin in his youth, and formerly worked at the old Eclipse Works of the Atlantic Refining Co. He was seriously burned and narrowly escaped death in a fire and explosion that claimed the lives of two other men in the refinery. In later years he received employment with the Franklin Steel Division of Borg-Warner, working as a mill hand. He worked there 19 years, retiring four years ago due to ill health, He was an ardent hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed working in his garden at his rural home.

His first wife, Gertrude Courson, preceded him in death. In 1954, he married Lucy Whitman who survives, with children John A. Shaffstall and James L. Shaffstall of Burleson, TX; five step-children, Mrs. John (Mary) Miller of Groves, TX, Theodore Green of Franklin, Mrs. Boyd (Gladys) Coxson of Franklin, Lee Green of Cooperstown, and Donovan Green of Franklin; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and two brothers, Archie Shaffstall of Guys Mills, and Roy Shaffstall of Cochranton.

Services will be at 1:30 pm Tuesday at Buchanan-Schmidt Funeral Home with Rev. William P. McCray, pastor of Worden Chapel Church officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.
