Mrs. Lillian Pearl Hughes, 63, of 67 First Avenue, Bleakley Hill, died Thursday at 6:55 pm in the Franklin Hospital, where she'd been the past 10 days. Not in good health for the past three years, her condition became worse seven weeks ago. She was the daughter of Arthur A. and Emily Jane Whitman Shuffstall (should be Shaffstall), born in Cochranton Feb. 2, 1886.
She spent the greater part of her life in this community and was known and respected by many. She was a member of Fox Street Church of God and the Rocky Grove Volunteer Firemen's Auxiliary.
She was twice married, her first husband, Hayes Franklin, having died in 1936. On Aug. 16, 1940, she married Leslie F. Hughes, who survives, with a son, Merle R. Franklin, Bleakley Hill; a step-son and two step-daughters, Floyd W. Hughes, Galloway, Mrs. Wallace L. Moore, Franklin, Mrs. Richard M. Lobaugh, Pitcairn, PA; three grandchildren; six brothers, Clarl Lee Shuffstall, RD 3 Franklin, Claude Roy Shuffstall, Cochranton, Archie Byron Shuffstall, RD 2 Guys Mills, Harold Claire Shuffstall, RD 3 Franklin, Wallace Lyle Shuffstall, Rocky Grove, and Harry Alton Shuffstall, Franklin. Deceased are a sister, Effie Mae Boughner, who died in 1907, and brother, Earl R. Shuffstall, who died in 1942.
Services will be at 2:30 pm Sunday at the home with Rev. Frank A. Towers, pastor of Fox Street Church of God, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.
