Harold Clair Shaffstall, 62, of Whitman Hill, Franklin RD 3, died at 1:20 am Monday following a lingering illness in Bashline-Rossman Hospital in Grove City, where he had been the past 50 days. He was born January 22, 1895, in Wayne Township, Crawford County, son of Arthur A. and Jane Whitman Shaffstall.

She was united in marriage with Virginia Burford, who died in 1929.

He was employed by the Socony Mobile Oil Co. for 28 years, serving as a maintenance mechanic at the Two Mile Run plant. He was a veteran of World War I, entering the service in Franklin May 28, 1918, serving as a private first class in Base Hospital No. 62, saw service overseas, leaving United States Aug. 31, 1918 and returning May 29, 1919. He was discharged June 11, 1919 at Fort Dix, NJ. He was a member of Warden Chapel Methodist Church.

He is survived by a son, Donald M. Shaffstall, at home; and four brothers, Lee and Harry Shaffstall of Franklin RD 3, Archie of Bradleytown, and Roy Shaffstall of Cochranton.
