Dwight was the 6th of 8 children born to Eben and Hattie (Nicholson) Bailey. He was born in Royal, Iowa. On 3 June 1925, he married Jennie Batchelor in Peterson, Iowa. They lived their entire married life in Whittier, Calif., where Dwight worked in a welding rod factory until he retired. They were the parents of 3 children; a daughter, Barbara, who died in infancy, and 2 sons, Cecil and James.
