Albert J. "A. J." Adler, age 83, died on Friday, February 28, 1992 at his home following a long battle with cancer. He was born on January 1, 1909 in the town of Vienna to John and Margaret (Saeman) Adler. On May 7, 1935, he became the loving husband and best friend of the former Cecilia Pape, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1985. A. J. owned and operated his own trucking business until 1953, at which time he went to work at Oscar Mayer until his retirement in 1973. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Martinsville and the Knights of Columbus Council 6371. For 55 years, A. J. was an avid bowler until his illness forced him to quit just last year. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Fritz (Ruth Ann) Adler of Windsor and Pete (Judy) Adler of Waunakee; six daughters, Mary Ann Simon of Madison, Sister Mari Therese of Milwaukee, Janice (Gene) Christensen of Milwaukee, Janet (Ron) McLean of Monona, Judy (Hank) Froese of Prairie du Sac, and Susie Adler of DeForest; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Sister Dorothy Adler of Milwaukee, Sister Agatha Adler of Chicago, Leola Kahl of Middleton, and Rosella Dahmen of Monroe; three brothers, Gene Adler and Harold "Hap" Adler, both of Florida and Donald Adler of Middleton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ray, Norbert and Ervin [Ervan] "Whimpy"; a sister, Bernice Lamberty; and a granddaughter JoLynn Adler. Funeral services were held on March 2, 1992 at St. Martin Catholic Church in Martinsville. Father Thomas H. Schroeder officiated. Burial was at the church cometary. He was a loving husband, a special father, and an extremely loyal friend. He will be missed by all.
