Harold "Hap" Adler, age 85, died on Thursday, May 26, 2005, at Brewster Village after a long decline due to Alzheimer's disease. Hap was born March 2, 1920, in Cross Plains, to John and Margaret (Maggie) Adler. He married Jacklyn Reader after returning from World War II. Hap was very proud of his service in the United States Air Force and had many stories that he loved to tell about his adventures. Hap was a talented handyman and was always willing to help his family, friends, and neighbors. He worked at a variety of jobs in the Madison area over the years. After retirement, Hap and Jackie split their time between their beloved cottage at Lake Jordan, near Oxford, and Lakeland, Florida. Hap enjoyed golf and bowling. After Jackie's death in 1993, Hap returned to live in Appleton, near family. He has been thoughtfully and lovingly cared for by the staff at Brewster Village for the past six years as his illness progressed. Hap is survived by his two daughters, Susan (Kim) Kass of Cedarburg, and Dr. Karen Adler-Fischer (Jack L. Fischer) of Appleton; and one son, Michael of Waupaca. He is further survived by five grandchildren, David and Erik (fiancee Katie Gaber) Kass and Matt, Jon, and Katie Fischer. He has three surviving sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Friday, June 3, 2005, at 6 p.m. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, family requests any memorials be directed to Brewster Village, 3300 West Brewster St., Appleton, Wis. 54914.
