ARDETH CARLYLE SHUMWAY

Ardeth Carlyle Shumway, of Riverside, CA, passed away in the wee hours of the morning on Thursday, August, 7, 2014. He was a patriot, serving in the US Army during the 2nd World War. He was a loving father of five children, Annette Winsor, Kathleen Rawe, Kristen Grady, John Shumway and Janet Palmer. He was also a loving husband to the late Ruth Josephine Farley and provided amply for his family as a pharmacist. He was born in Lakeside, Arizona on the 20th of November, 1923 and grew up in Clifton, Greenlee County, Arizona. He was inducted into the US Army on the 28th of July, 1943. He was trained as a Medic and landed on the beach at Normandy, France. His campaigns of service included Northern France, The Ardennes, The Rhineland and Central Europe. He was Honorably Discharged from the Army on the 20th of November 1945 at Fort Bliss, TX. After being reunited with his beautiful wife, Ruth Farley, he enrolled in Pharmacy School at Idaho State University, Pocatello, ID. After finishing school, he interned as a pharmacist in Mesa, AZ and later moved to California and was the co-owner of Palo Verde Drug in Blythe, CA where he raised his children. While in Blythe, CA he was active in civic and community service as the President of Rotary International, Blythe chapter. He was also active in church service and served in many leadership callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After selling his interest in Palo Verde Drug, he moved to Riverside, CA and retired from Thrifty Drug. His Funeral Services will be held at the University Heights Ward, 181 Blaine Street, Riverside, CA on Friday the 22nd of August. There will be a viewing at 10 a. m., the funeral service at 11am and the interment in the Riverside National Cemetery at 1pm, using assembly area #5. He will be missed by his family and friends.
