Early Life: Jesse was born September 29, 1929, in Lakeside*, Arizona, the tenth child of Clarence and Esther Smith Shumway. He grew up in Arizona and loved the outdoors.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: Jesse fulfilled a mission in Japan for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the United States Army in Korea and later, graduated from Brigham Young University. While at BYU, he met his future wife, Patricia Ruth Hilton. This union was blessed with nine wonderful children. He worked as an Aerospace Engineer in Utah and the San Francisco Bay Area. After he retired in 1997, Jesse and Patti involved themselves in missionary service for the Church, fulfilling three full-time missions together. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jesse Fredrick Shumway, 79, has gone back to that God who gave him life. He was called home from Provo, Utah, on November 12, 2008, after a brief illness.

Survived By: His wife, Patti; their children: Jesse Fredrick Jr. (Lindsay Maitland), Douglas Hilton (Chikako), Daniel Glen (Celestia), Eve Patricia Dowdle (Michael), Samuel Smith, Andrew Eugene (Megelyn), Naomi Esther, Sally Elizabeth Gierisch (Brian) and Mary Janette Hoffman (Marty); brothers and sister: Beula Petersen, Ardeth Shumway and Phil Shumway; 43 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Preceded In Death By: His parents and six siblings.
