Annie was single and living with her sister Christine Hillegonds Verburg until her death. She suffered from a thyroid condition that did not allow independent living.
Annie Hillegonds died in December 1966 at the age of 69 years in the community of Roseland in Chicago, a former Dutch settlement of truck farmers, Cook County, Illinois. She was born there too.
